Awards to Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC women in eligible locations to recognize outstanding leadership in businesses and contributions to the community. Nominees must be available for events taking place between August and October 2020. Nominees should be established members of the business community with a record of innovation in their fields, outstanding performance in their businesses, and a clear track record of meaningful community involvement.

Nominees should work for a business or organization based in D.C. or one of the following jurisdictions:

  • City of Alexandria, Va.
  • City of Falls Church, Va.
  • Arlington County, Va.
  • Fairfax County, Va.
  • Loudoun County, Va.
  • Prince William County, Va.
  • Montgomery County, Md.
  • Prince George's County, Md

Estimated Size of Grant:

All honorees will be profiled in the Washington Business Journal and online.

Besides the print interview, awardees will be invited to be part of a video shoot, an awards event, and a private luncheon.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nominees should work for a business or organization based in the eligible region.

Previous honorees will not be awarded.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations have been extended for 1 week until Monday, June 29. Self-nominations are welcome.

Winners will be asked to attend a video shoot at the Washington Business Journal's office in Rosslyn.

Winners will also be required to attend the awards event in October and a private luncheon in September for the 2020 class of Women Who Mean Business honorees as well as alumnae and sponsors. Please do not nominate business owners or leaders who will be on vacation or who have prior commitments during the timeframe of the event.

Please note that there is a commitment on the honoree's part in order to be part of this program, including photo and video shoots and a print interview. Please fully consider the honoree's availability and schedule for the months of August, September, and October before submitting a nomination. Hundreds of women hope to be part of this program and a firm commitment is needed from the honoree in order for her to be part of this awards program. That may mean moving things around on your schedule in order to meet the deadlines and requests.
