Deadline Date:

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grant of up to $70,000 to a USA individual or group of researchers affiliated with qualifying institutions for studies related to physical therapy home visits for elderly patients. Preference will be given to projects having the most immediate clinical application. Funding is intended for research on the practice and impact of front-loading and treatment intensity of physical therapy home visits for geriatric patients.

Funds may be requested to meet any type of expense reasonably associated with the research project, including salaries and fringe benefits, purchase or rental of equipment, supplies, travel, publication costs, printing or postage, and special services such as computer time, photographic services, and secretarial or research assistant support.

Proposed studies should add to or refine the body of knowledge on which physical therapist Geriatric research practice is based using any of a variety of recognized investigative methods, such as experimental, descriptive, or correlational. Proposed studies should begin to address the most critical questions regarding contemporary clinical practice.

Further research is required to: refine the definition of frontloading, describe the prevalence of frontloading and visit intensity, understand the impact of frontloading therapy visits on functional improvement and hospital readmission rates, identify patients most likely to benefit from frontloading, and provide guidance to home health physical therapy providers on how and when to implement these strategies. Grant proposals that evaluate the effectiveness of physical therapist examinations and/or interventions in-home health geriatric populations will be of greatest interest to the Foundation. Proposals should reflect the current scientific evidence as well as the Research Agenda of the American Physical Therapy Association.

The above research questions may be addressed through quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research approaches using existing data sets. Quantitative studies should, whenever possible, use population-based data or robust sampling frames that are generalizable beyond the study sample. Medicare claims, and Medicare OASIS data may offer the most compelling and complete source of information to address this RFA.
